John Mayer on being an apologetic John Mayer

In Music, Young Hollywood on February 11, 2010 at 3:07 pm

OOPS…He did it again. Is John Mayer misunderstood? Isn’t being called sexual napalm a compliment?

Celebgawking has always had a fond place for tabloid honey John Mayer. Yes, he sometimes speaks before thinking about the consequences. Yes, he has failed with a lot of hot women. He’s been romantically attached to some of Hollywood’s hottest women (Minka Kelly, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston) just to name a few. Even though John’s success rate hasn’t been so great with the ladies, his music and his boyish antics via twitter and youtube have made him widely popular. Jonh’s blogsphere/twitlebrity presence along with his inability to keep the words  from rolling off his tongue is what gets him into trouble. But is he really the villain? Or is John Mayer just misunderstood?

After a memorable interview with Rolling Stone where John openly talked about masturbation, his private parts and relationships with Jessica Simson and Jennifer Aniston, we wondered if John would ever learn the value of TMI. Yet we couldn’t help but sympathize with his inability to find a “normal” relationship with a nice girl.

Then this week came some controversial statements made in Playboy where he referred to Jessica Simpson as “sexual napalm” and used the “N” word. Profuse apologies followed via twitter. “It’s such a shame that I [used the N-word] because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged… I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don’t have the stomach for it.”

Here he is breaking down Wednesday night during a concert in Nashville, TN.

We hope John follows his most recent statement, perhaps the best piece of advice he has ever given himself in the 3-ring circus that his become his life. “I quit the media game. I’m out. I’m done. I just want to play my guitar.”
