The Big Winners of the 81st Oscars

The Big Winners of the 81st Oscars

It may have been an evening for slumdogs but the Kodak Theatre was alive with glamour last night with the Hollywood heat of the red carpet at the 81st Oscar Awards.  The official close of awards season last night was sensational as it was bittersweet, as the Oscars recognized the stars from an unforgettable year in film.  The Academy of Motion Pictures  rang in a new and exciting awards show with a unique twist with a flawless performance in this year’s singing host, Hugh Jackman, who looked very handsome in his custom made tux, Burberry shirts and Salavatore Ferragamo shoes.

Celebgawking was in also love with the unique style of this year’s Oscar’s and the vision of pale shades and gorgeous colors that graced the red carpet. Best Supporting Actress winner Penelope Cruz was a fairytale vision  in vintage Balmain, complete with decades of beauty envelped in it’s train. Marissa Tomei’s Versace  had the most amazing pleating and had arrived that morning. Tomei completed the over the shoulder look with jewels by Van Cleef and Arpels. Taraji P Henson’s Roberto Cavalli was like a divine wedding cake with layers of cream softly overlapping another layer of delicious fabric. Anne Hathaway sparkled in a soft white, jewel enrusted  Armani Prive. Evan Rachel Wood also opted for a soft pale cream in her Elie Saab gown.  Meryl Streep fabulous in an off the shoulder grey Alberta Ferretti, that was trailed by a long chiffon train. The over the shoulder steel grey and black embellished, tulle gown by Atelier Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati was breathtaking on Kate Winslet and entirely appropriate for the lady of the evening.

Miley Cyrus was rocking the red carpet with her mom in a silver and white gown by Zuhair Murhad , which she told Ryan Seacrest  “weighs more than me.”  Some critics felt the dress wore Miley instead of the other way around and that it was a tad too grown up for the tween star. We  loved her dress and felt it was entirely appropriate for the event. It’s the Oscars! Jessica Biel also chose a  a blousy ensemble of satin and cream  by Prada . Presenter Sarah Jessica Parker was a modern day Cinderella in her Haute Couture Dior. We were on the fence with Nominee Amy Adams, who took a big risk with her handsome Caroline Herrera  in bold red. Jennifer Aniston hammed it up with Jack Black for her big Oscar moment in a Versace that certainly did her justice. How else does one hold her head up high at the biggest awards show of the year and your ex and his current babies mama is sitting front and center?  And Mickey Rourke, who has always said he wouldn’t wear a tuexedo, made a unique statement with his white suit, black patent leather shoes and a locket with a picture of his beloved dog Lokie.

We’ve also decided to include the couples that looked amazing because there is nothing better than being photgraphed with great arm candy. Brangelina were regal and gorgeous as usual with Angelina Jolie playing is safe in a black Elie Saab. They convenitenly avoided a run in with Jennifer Aniston after Aniston avoided the red carpet altogethere. On the younger side, Vanessa Hudgens (in Marchesa) and Zac Efron were a breath of fresh air arriving on the carpet at the same time but doing their press seperately. A stunning Freida Pinto chose a vibrant blue gown ( in John Galliano) and a handsome Dev Patel denied rumors of any sort of relationship. John Mayer was a perfect Oscar boyfriend  alongside Jennifer Aniston. Sarah Jessica Parker demured that yes, there may be in fact a sequel to Sex and the City. Was the color on the television off or was handsome Matthew Broderick was sporting a lighter hair color?

LC Style & The District Part 2

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Last week celebgawking showed you Newsweek’s hilarious spoof on MTV’s The City & The Hills with The District. Episode 2 was released yesterday by NTV with another satirical look at MTV’s most popular reality drama. Maybe it’s the glossy lives that LC and Whitney Port lead, running around town looking carefree, over sized sunglasses perched on their cute little noses as they jump in and out of one fabulous hot spot to another. All the while working incredibly tough schedules at People’s Revolution & Diane von Furstenberg. For celebgawking it’s the outfits that we love so much. What will LC wear today? How does she pull off every outfit flawlessly? Here’s Lauren Conrad below, looking absolutely fabulous and West Coast casual chic. Sporting lots of her signature accessory, Chanel.

Celebgawking is loving the bright colors found on Hollywood A-list ladies during the red carpet mania of awards season. Black is a familiar staple but we thought it might be nice to get some inspiration from the women who are draped in some of our favorite designer threads. Celebgawking loves, loves, loves navy blue but is trying to venture beyond the “safe” colors and think of a  new signature shade for Spring. Cameron Diaz dazzled in Chanel Couture,  Anne Hathaway was sophisticated elegance in Armani Prive and Freida Pinto is the only gal who can pull of Christian Lacroix  in mustard yellow.  Green was eye-catching on Christina Applegate who wore  Emanuel Ungaro  and yellow popped on Viola Davis in David Meister.

Celebgawking has a serious obsession with both The Hills & The City.  After a whirlwind week of A-listers during the Inauguration, we felt obliged to show you this video of true genius, spoofing both of those MTV hits with D.C.’s own spoof  The District. Brought to you by the folks at Newsweek, who have appropriately renamed themselves NTV, the video comes with a very accurate narration/imitation of President Barack Obama by Imas Crosson. The video includes some great, panoramic beauty shots of the DC skyline, uses “Hill-esque” words like “frenemies” and and even has theme song by Pussycat Dolls. Watch out Heidi and Spencer…there’s a new power couple competing for those US Weekly covers.

The Gals of He's Just Not Into You

The Gals of He's Just Not Into You

Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood was star-studded for the premiere of  He’s Just Not That Into You on monday night. If you are a woman who has not heard of this book or heard of the film, which is opening in cinemas nationwide on Friday, than here’s a preview of what to expect from our friends at YouTube.

The film is based on the very funny book, written by Sex and the City writers Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. Co-Produced by Drew Barrymore, it follows the trials and tribulations of dating in your 20’s and 30’s and stars some of my favorite A-list actresses. At Monday’s red carpet, they each wore something fabulous from Jen Aniston’s Burberry pant suit (can you believe she is turning 40 on February 11th!) to Drew’s cute frock by Lanvin.  Ginnifer Goodwin was super cute in an orange Bottega Veneta and Jennifer Connelly was green with envy in Balmain. Scarlett Johansson clealry had Spring on her mind in a long floral number by Oscar De La Renta  from the 2009 Spring collection.

The Creative Coalition Ball in Washington, DC

Anne Hathaway stunning in Dior Picture by EOnline.com

Oscar Nominee Anne Hathaway stunning in Dior thank you JustJared.com for the great pic

It was a mayhem for the Creative Coalition Gala red carpet on Tuesday night at The Harman Center for the Arts in Washington, DC. Anne Hathaway showed up first on the red carpet, a vision in a red, floor length Dior gown, escorted by her father Gerald. Oscar nominee Marisa Tomei swept by in an adorable in a very structured, black,  off the shoulder dress by Giambattista Valli.  Kerry Washington wore a deep cut blue dress that simply sparkled. Celebgawking apologizes and wished they could interview and take pictures at the same time but alas, that deemed way to difficult. Press from Glamour Magazine to OK! and of course the Washington Post were  all clamoring to get the best quotes. Matthew Modine told us a new mini-facelift trick was smiling and Susan Sarandon told us she thought Michelle Obama had great style. Below are some news agency pics and a few shots celebgawking took as the celebs strolled down the carpet before heading inside for a performance by Sting.

Kerry Washington arrived late but still looked sparkly in various shades of blue. The photogs went crazy when she took off her coat for pictures. Friday Night Lights Connie Britton, and one of the sweetest girls to interview, sparkled in this gold, floor length stunner by Italian designer Ginami. The evening before at the VIP Creative Coalition Dinner Britton told celebgawking this is her first Inaugural Ball and was very excited to be a part of the festivities.

There were several hush-hush after parties and celebgawking observed some serious canoodling and fun. But a strict no cameras allowed policy kept us from getting it on film, so you’ll just have to take our word for it.

Celebgawking hits Washington, DC

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren at The Declare Yourself Party

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren at The Declare Yourself Party

It’s been a star-studded week for Washington, DC as the Inaugural festivities kicked off  and Celebgawking has been there to catch some of the action. The District’s most exlcusive hotels  have been gushing celebgawking of all kinds. First stop,  Bourbon  inside the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, where a few notable A-listers have been spotted sipping a cocktail or two. Oprah Winfrey has the mack daddy suite here and Jessica Alba and hubby Cash Warren are also rumored to be guests.  Sunday night we spotted Jessica Alba looked gorgeous at the Impact Film Festival  Party when she stopped in to mingle with other VIP’s like Ron Howard, Nelly and Sarah Silverman. The Creative Coalition VIP Dinner at Teatro Goldoni on K Street was also a place to rub elbows with Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Kerry  Washington, Josh Lucas, Connie Britton, Billy Baldwin & Ellen Burstyn. Inside Edition’s Samantha Harris gushed about her excitement to becovering the official parties and galas and even let celebgawking know how she stays in shape- by taking the stairs! Celebgawking couldn’t get to the Huffington Post Party but we heard due to massive traffic delays some other celebs didn’t make it either. However we hear Robert De Niro & Denzel Washington along with Sharon Stone did. Later on Washington Life Magazine  sponsored The Black Door Party at Josephine’s where we spotted Vanessa Wlliams looking fab, Star Jones being..well Star Jones. Rosario Dawson was looking gorgeous while dancing at a private table in the “Gold Room” with Jessica Alba, Hayden Panettiere &  Kerry Washington. Tracey Edmunds took to the dance floor while lipsynching “We Are Family” with some girlfriends and nearby Forest Whitaker danced alongside wife Keisha at a private table. Thank so much  to the PR mavens who hooked celebgawking up with entry into this exclusive party and a killer gift bag…you know who you are, enough said. Stay tuned as celebgawking.com gears up for The Creative Coalition Gala at The Harman Center for the Arts, The Purple Ball at The Fairmont  & The BET Ball at The Mandarin Oriental tonight.

Recession or not, the show must go on and The Hollywood Foreign Association put on it’s biggest show of the year last night with the 66th Annual Golden Globes. The Beverly Hills Hilton has hosted the star-studded event for the past 35 years and all the heavy hitters came out to play and dressed in their best threads of course. In a sea of Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel everyone always looks smashing but a handful really stick out from the rest.

Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra

For those of you who love fashion then you know this is a make it or break it event for designers to show off their couture by dressing some of Hollywood’s most famous faces. The over the shoulder style is still going strong along with bold and neutral colors and a comeback for ruffles. Black was the safe choice for Susan Sarandon in Hugo Boss tuxedo jacket. Reem Acra ruled the night with three different high profile ladies wearing this designer. Eva Longoria was ravishing in a tight, red gown by Reem Acra.  Olivia Wilde also wore a Reem Acra creation and looked absolutely divine in a ruffled, lavendar gown. Last but certainly not least was  a very grown up Rumer Willis in a purple, strapless Reem Acra.

Jennifer Morrison and Amy Adams both donned Oscar De La Renta and Christina Applegate took your breath away in a yellow strapless Roberto Cavalli. Eva Mendes was a model of beauty in a floor length, off white Dior complete with bows and ruffles and the most amazing turqoise blue necklace I have ever laid my eyes on.

Drew Barrymore epitomized old school glamour in a grey off the shoulder John Galliano gown and big, sexy hair and Sandra Bullock wore a dress by Dior described as ‘vanilla’ by E! host Ryan Seacrest. Cameron Diaz of course pulling off an almost impossible color-pink! But it is Chanel Haute Couture and it is Cameron Diaz.

I loved the unique and bold print of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s gown by Lanvin and Debra Mesing’s Zac Posen. Jennifer Lopez was flawless in a plunging, gold gown by Marchesa and Hayden Panettiere was grown up in a beaded Gianfranco Ferre.

Brangelina...could they be anymore beautiful?

The celebs were out again for the VH1 Critic’s Choice Awards in Santa Monica Thursday night. There were several well dressed lads and ladies on the red carpet, which perhaps served as a great rehearsal for Sunday night’s Golden Globes. Some of my favorites are below. I adored Penelope Cruz in a royal blue stunner by Yves Saint Laurent and Anne Hathaway was super cute in Gianfranco Ferre’. If I had gobs and gobs of money I would buy the following dresses and covet them as my own. I would also buy Brad Pitt.

Awards season in Hollywood has officially begun. Last night marked the 35th People’s Choice Awards hosted by Queen Latifah at Shriners Auditorium in Los Angeles. A bevy of beauties rocked the red carpet and there was certainly some hits and misses. One of the trends I am loving right now is single strap over the shoulder look. Kate Hudson was looking gorgeous in an asymetrical cut from Gucci’s  2009 line in Teal.  90210’s Jessica Stroup looked sexy chic in Herve Leger and Queen Latifah rocked a dress by Gustavo Cadile. DWTS’s Samantha Harris looking svelte in a whitw hot number by David Meister. A very grown up looking Dakota Fanning kept it sassy with her one-armed blue mini.

Debra messing looked a little gray in Donna Karan but Marisa Tomei made up for it in her racy red by the same designer. Jay Godfrey has been showing up everywhere lately and Swedish beauty Malin Aikerman chose him for the evenings festivities.
